The Engineering School Impact System (ENSIS) was designed to determine the nature and extent of an engineering school’s impact on its local environment – the city or region where it is located.
ENSIS is designed as a tool and an approach for measuring, as completely as possible, the different impacts that an engineering school may have on its environment in terms of finance, jobs, and activities, as well as intellectually.
The goal is not just to measure direct impacts in the financial sense, but also to identify all of a school’s activities that contribute to the development of its environment. This approach is complementary to existing accreditation processes insofar as it aims, not to define conformity with a standard, but to evaluate the impact of an engineering school on its environment, taking into account its particularities and its role.
