Rethinking Tomorrow’s Organization (RTO) comprises 47 full-time academics based in Rennes, who are researching the future of organizations under the themes of the Responsible Organization, Interconnected Organization and Adaptive Organization. RTO is a vibrant inter-disciplinary group of scholars working of a range of funded projects, with regular international guest speakers, research webinars and paper development workshops.
The Center for Research on Digitalization and Sustainability (CREDS), established in 2022, currently consists of 11 full-time academics based in Kongsvinger, Norway, who accelerate research on the transition enabling sustainable businesses and societies, shedding light on digital transformations, technological and business model innovations, and green disruptions. CREDS, like RTO, is an inter-disciplinary research team involved in a variety of funded projects, featuring international guests and research webinars on a regular basis.
Rennes School of Business (RSB), France is offering two full-time 3-year PhD scholarships for a double degree with Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN), Norway.

Research Themes and Environment
These PhD positions form part of a joint initiative between the two institutions’ research centres “Rethinking Tomorrow’s Organisation” (RSB) and the “Center for Research on Digitalization and Sustainability” (INN) linked to the following areas of research:
Successful candidates will join a cohort of four PhD students (2 based in RSB and 2 at INN) under the umbrella of this joint initiative, with rich opportunities for collaboration and exchange with each other, the local and international academic and business environments, and with research environments of both institutions.
Rennes School of Business
The mission of our PhD programme is to enable participants to develop the necessary research and analytical skills to bring a valuable contribution to their area of academic expertise. Over the three years of the programme, participants are prepared for international, research-driven academic careers or research positions in multinational companies, organisations or institutions. At Rennes School of Business and Inland University, you will join an animated and varied research community of PhD, post-doctoral students and internationally renowned academic researchers. You will benefit from seminars and workshops delivered by world-class academics, and at RSB join a triple-accredited business school (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA) ranked among the Top 10 in France for international attractiveness and the quality of its Faculty.
European Mobility
During the 3-year PhD program, you will be part of a cohort of four PhD students starting in September 2023, enrolled at both institutions, RSB, France and INN, Norway. You will be based mainly at RSB, under the co-supervision of research faculty from RSB and INN. You will spend your first semester of your first year at INN and will attend seminars and short courses in both institutions over the 3 years. On successful completion the student will be awarded a PhD degree by both institutions.
The Programme
The PhD programme has a standard duration of 36 months for full-time students. In addition to dual supervision, it is structured around methods and specialised courses including advanced quantitative and qualitative method, and a mandatory course on innovation studies, as well as various formats to acquire world class academic skills. At RSB, students will also attend bi-monthly “Expertise” sessions with invited speakers on a range of topics and research methods. Students will present their work at the annual PhD conference, and also take part in an annual progress review. Students are also encouraged to present their work to national and international conferences, with funds available to support attendance. Finally, all students have the opportunity to work as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant, helping to deliver undergraduate student lectures and tutorials from Year 2 onwards. In addition to contribute to skills development, this experience is a valuable addition to their CV as future academics.
